Crawl
Space
Encapsulation
Many homes in Minnesota include a crawl space. Especially in lake homes and cabins, crawls spaces were designed to create a barrier between the home and the damp earth below. However, the air quality in these spaces is often not controlled, meaning no heat, air conditioning, or proper ventilation. This makes crawl spaces an ideal location for mold growth.
Crawl spaces without a sealed membrane can lead to high humidity levels and mold growth. Mold growth in a crawl space often is not contained in the space under a home. Elevated mold counts can spread to the levels above the crawl space. Even if you do not see visible mold, you may smell a musty scent or experience the adverse health effects without realizing the culprit lurks below your floorboards.
Our Crawl Space
Encapsulation Process
Some homeowners elect crawl space encapsulation as a preventative measure, so their home does not develop problems in the future. Others have identified issues that need to be resolved.
After any contaminated materials are removed and building materials are HEPA cleaned, floor liners are installed in crawl spaces over the exposed dirt. We try our best to minimize seams by pre-measuring the area to be encapsulated. Seams are sealed with industry-specific tapes and the perimeter is sealed with adhesive and spray foam. We are also able to spray foam walls and rim joists if necessary. Finally, we may add a dehumidifier to the crawl space to control relative humidity.
Air control and dehumidification is the key to a healthy home with a crawl space. Pure Breathing Solutions takes an advanced approach to sealing crawl spaces aiding in mold control, depleting radon infiltration, and reducing energy costs.
